Addicted?

If you have been following me for awhile, you may remember this entry where I mentioned my June shopping hiatus. I was (almost) successful, I did purchase a few things from AE this week, BUT its because its going to be 90 and humid as all get out in Chicago next week, and after putting on 20 lbs since last summer, only 1 pair of my shorts still fits. So I did break and get a nifty little buy one get one for $10 deal, PLUS I had a 15% off coupon. Score!

I digress. Beyond shopping for those shorts that I NEEDED, I successfully did not shop this month.
The problem is, I am now in what I'd like to call "Shoppers withdrawal". The side effects are dreaming, literally, about shopping. Not just in passing, but vivid dreams where I am legitimately going to a store (a Free People, that happened to be in the back of a Target. Weird), and picking out very clear (and adorable) items in said dream, loading them in my cart, and, in the dream, thinking to myself I didn't care if I didn't have cash, I would put this GORGEOUS pink chiffon maxi skirt (that was $76, yes I even remember looking at the price tags AND sizes), a beautiful royal purple tunic ($168) and an adorable long sleeved floral babydoll dress (on sale for $39.99, and one size too big.) on my credit card.

Wow. Does this mean I have a problem?!

Copycat Friday!

Left: Megan @ The Frugalista Diaries
Right: My take-- Blazer: New York & Co. (similar) / Jeans: American Eagle / Shoes: Michael Kors City Flat via Zappos  / Necklace: Gift from my man

Good morning lovely friends!
This time tomorrow I'll be at the airport (likely bloody Mary in hand, as I don't really like to fly) ready to hop a flight to Chicago! I'm so excited to see me and B's families and all our friends and just be around all the things that are familiar to me again. I like Washington and all, but its no Chi-town :)

SO This copycat Friday was SUPER fun and easy for me as I've been sitting on this casual, fun look for awhile! The inspiration come for the gorgeous Megan at the Frugalista Diaries!
It's gorgeous, easy, fab, great color... I stayed pretty true to the look, only exchanging the heels for flats. I truly wish I was a heels girl, but flats are my one true love. :)

Happy copycatting!

Thursday Remix

Dress: Target / Shoes: Michael Kors City Flat via Zappos / Cardi: Boutique in Leavenworth (similar)

Happy Thursday ya'll!

I decided something on happy accident today - turns out LAST Thursday I posted wearing this same cardi, which got me thinking, Thursdays should be my remix days! I'd love to do one of those 30 x 30 challenges, but I'm awful at reusing pieces, so perhaps this is a good way to ease in. After vacation, everything Thursday, I'll be taking one piece from the previous Thursday's outfit and re-wearing it in a different way! I love a good happy accident. You can see last weeks gray cardi outfit here!

Two more days and I'll be sweet home Chicago! Can't wait!

Packing dilemma - solved!

Packing for vacation is never an easy feat for some clothes hoarding fashionistas.
In prepping for our little 8 day trip to Chicago, I decided to take a different tact that was super inspired by the lovely (former) blogger at What a Nerd Would Wear (1 & 2)
The point is - remix remix remix! Amirite?!

After spending an inordinate amount of time in my closet I came up with this one tiny pile:

Of course I'll be wearing a pair of sandals, a dress and a cardi for the flight, and this pile doesn't include my undergarments, makeup and curling iron. But even with those additions, I'll easily be able to slide this into a carry on. (Since we are going to be staying with my parents, I have the luxury of not having to take loads of toiletries either!)
I was crazy impressed with my tiny clothing pile, and even more happy with all the outfit possibilities. In the end, I'll have the following:

  • 2 pairs of shoes
  • 4 dresses
  • 5 shirts (includes a tee that I'll use as jammies but can pull out for a lazy day!)
  • 2 pairs of shorts
  • 1 pair of cropped jeans
  • 1 cardigan
  • 1 scarf, 3 pairs of earrings, 1 necklace, 1 belt
Here are the outfits I'm planning on, but in the end, if I need to mix and match I have loads more opportunities!  I'm slightly sad about my lack of patterns, but neutrals make mix and matching crazy easy!

Rain, rain go away

Button up: New York & Co. (similar) / Tee: American Eagle / Pants: American Eagle (similar) / Shoes: American Eagle

As I mentioned in my post yesterday, we were unlucky enough to have a poop day filled with chilly air and rain. This outfit is by no means super fashionable, but it was definitely comfort clothes when all I really wanted was to curl up in bed with a good book! Sometimes, comfort just wins. :)

The bi-polar summer

Dress: New York & Co. circa 2010 / Shoes: American Eagle (similar and super cute!)

Is it just here, or is the weather been CRAZY lately?! Yesterday was a gorgeous, sunny 85. I was able to get off work at 5 and still sit by the pool for a couple hours, until the blasted wind picked up and it started to cloud over. This morning I woke up and it was 68 and raining! 68! Its been doing that for months, the changes day to day are ridiculous. I'd like it to get to about 88 and sunny, and just STAY there please!

This is one of my favorite dresses. I got it a few years ago at the massive New York & Co. on State Street in my lovely homeland of Chicago. I've never seen anyone else in the same dress, so I like to consider it pretty unique. Its also super flattering, and the wings make me feel like I could just fly away. Or something.

Hope its sunny wherever you are!

Let's make this week move...

Dress: Target (same style, offered in different colors!) / Cardigan: American Eagle (similar) / Shoes: Thrifted Cons

Happy Monday ya'll!

I'm super excited to get through this week, because this weekend, B and I are going to Sweet Home Chicago for EIGHT WHOLE DAYS! We moved here toward the end of last year, and the only friends or family we've been able to see since then has been B's parents, so I'm SUPER excited to see everyone, and do all of my favorite things that this tiny section of Washington doesn't offer (cough cough, good shopping, big city amenities, Buffalo Wild Wings, our favorite watering hole, a Sox game, cough cough).

Lets make this week move, shall we?

Fridays are the best days

Dress: Target (no longer online, but can be found in stores - check the clearance racks!) / Cardigan: old New York & Co. (similar)

Happy Friday ya'll!!! After a long week is there anything better then knowing there's just a few hours between you and the weekend? To top it off, I'm feeling loads better today, we are going out for a yummy lunch at one of my favorite Tri-Cities restaurants, AND  I just got GREAT news from a friend.

All in all its shaping up to be a good day!

It was super hot yesterday and this dress was lightweight enough to keep me cool, I love the color combo and the style, and for a tall girl I greatly appreciated how super long it was. Thanks Target!

Gray Days

Dress: Liz Claiborne via JCPenney (similar) / Cardi: Boutique in Leavenworth (similar) / Shoes: Mossimo via Target

Yesterday, I was feeling pretty good, and I believe it shows in my outfit! I fell asleep the night before reading Harry Potter (desperately trying to finish 'The Goblet of Fire' so I can move on to book 5!) around 9:30pm, and slept until 8:30am. This seems excessive, but it was the the first morning I woke up feeling remotely refreshed, and for this - I am incredibly thankful!!

As for the outfit, I just want to say this dress is a lifesaver, you can style it up or style it down and the fit is super flattering on all body types. The denim also makes it crazy versatile with adding color. You can also see how I wore it here!

When comfort beats out style

Tunic: (old) Elle for Kohls / Jeggings: Hue via Carson Pirie Scott / Shoes: American Eagle (same in different color)

So I guess I'm not FULLY over the sickness. Am I the only one that feels a lot of pressure to have super cute outfits every day because you know you are going to be posting them later? With my fatigue and now working full days again, this week has been waaaay more comfort then style. I'm doing my best but something tells me when I look back at this weeks outfits in the future it will be more 'ew' then 'aw'.

Ah well. I enjoy doing this too much to not post! This outfit feels almost like a bit of a lie however, I wore it all day but spent most of it covered up with an oversize sweatshirt as the a/c was flipping freezing in my office. So really, imagine this with a huge hooded pink sweatshirt. There. Now you have my real daily outfit!

The outfit that never was

Shirt: Merona for Target / Shorts: American Eagle (similar) / Shoes: Toms / Headband: Target (old)

This outfit was originally intended for work Friday, but Friday morning a wave of mono caught up with me and caused me to stay in bed until 11am. So much for work. I did, however, wear this out to grab a drink (of which I last until 11pm, and then promptly passed out. Guess I'm still not ready to par-tay.)

Happy Weekend Ya'll!

Dressing good to feel good

Jean Jacket: NY & Co. (similar) / Tank: Kohls / Skirt: Made with this pattern / Shoes: Mossimo via Target

I think I overdid it yesterday. I was so confident in my ability to work and clean and sew, I nearly killed myself. Leading me to wake up really really late and really really tired today. I may take most of the day off and rest again tomorrow for the weekend, in hopes of 100% health by Monday. What do you think the odds of that are?

In the mean time, I made this super cute skirt with THIS Simplicity pattern, and I LOVE it. The pockets on the side are so cute and handy. I started a really pretty maxi dress last night too, but I made it a pinch to small and it doesnt sit on my hips right. Oh the woes of sewing.

Annnd I'm back!

And I'm back! Hopefully.
Have you ever had mono?
If you have, you feel me. If you haven't, thank your lucky stars.

I've been tired, CONSTANTLY. Like, all the time. I worked half day on Monday and the second I walked in my door at home, I plopped on a chair and promptly fell into a deep sleep for 2 hours. Its crazy! I sleep 16 hours a day and I never feel refreshed. It stinks. My friend tells me that's what pregnancy is like too, so there's another check on my list of reasons not to have a child. ;)
I also hear its unusual for me to get mono at my age, as it mostly hits teenagers. I'm so.. special?

I digress. I've been to work for a couple hours here or there, but today was my first attempt at actually getting dressed and working a semi-full day. I skipped lunch and lasted until after 2pm, but that was the most I could do without needing a nap. Still only a couple hours short of a full day! Tomorrow I'm crossing my fingers for a whole day!

On to the outfit! This little diddy was super comfortable for my almost-full day. The top is actually a swimsuit cover up I purchased for Vegas, but its so dern cute I thought I could get away with wearing it tunic style too!

Cardigan: American Eagle (similar) / Leggings: Target / Tunic-Swim Cover Up: Target (similar) / Shoes: Target

Side note, have you guys tried these kinds of bras yet? I thought I'd hate them as I'm a bigger chested lady and typically require underwire to hold my puppies up, but I'm in LOVE with them. They hold me up great and double as a cami under deep v-necks and such. HIGHLY recommend them for summer!! Kohl's has some great 2-packs of them in different colors and patterns too!

Down with the sickness...

Hello friends!

I apologize for the scarce postings, but they are going to continue to be so for the next week or so. I started feeling awful on Monday afternoon and I stayed home from work yesterday when I realized I was running a fever. I literally slept.ALL.day. I finally went to the doctor this morning and it turns out I have mono! Ew. So I'm likely to continue the trend of sleeping 8 hours during the day and 12 hours at night for at least a few days, which means getting out of my pjs is unlikely. I'll be back just as soon as I feel up to getting up and about!

Kathryn Laine.

Friday Day and Night

Whos ready for some crazy posting action?!

I had good intentions when I took these photos Friday - I actually remembered to chronicle my 'going out' outfit as well! But the photo shopping failed to happen and instead I spent the weekend watching Greek on Netflix and eating (and drinking) loads of things that weren't on WeightWatchers. I also managed to get out Friday night with some co-workers and good friends though - hence the beer in hand. :) Hope ya'll had a great weekend too!
